4 Types of Breast Cancer ID’d

Scientists have broken down breast cancer into four distinct types in a landmark study that could lead to new approaches to treating the disease in a new study published Monday. The study, part of a large federal project known as the Cancer Genome Atlas, represents the first time researchers have broken down the genetics of a disease that kills tens of thousands of women a year. β€œThis is the road map for how we might cure breast cancer in the future,” said researcher Dr. Matthew Ellis. But researchers are still cautions: although they indicated that the study will have direct implications for women who suffer from breast cancer, translating the findings into treatments may take time.
