The police photographer who released arrest photos of Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was reportedly relieved of duty Thursday night, hours after the photos were published.
The tactical photographer, Sgt. Sean Murphy of Massachusetts State Police, told Boston Magazine he was angry over a Rolling Stone cover photo that he said glamorized Tsarnaev.
The photos released by Murphy show Tzarnaev bleeding, standing in a dry-docked boat, with the red dot of a sniper’s rifle focused on his forehead.
Murphy told Boston Magazine that his photos showed the “real Boston bomber, not someone fluffed and buffed for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.”
