Miss Lebanon is claiming she was photobombed by Miss Israel after she came under fire in her home country for appearing in a selfie with Miss Israel that was posted on Instagram.
Miss Lebanon, Saly Greige, is seen in the photo smiling with Miss Israel, Doron Matalon, along with Miss Slovenia and Miss Japan at this year’s Miss Universe contest.
Lebanon is technically at war with Israel, and Lebanese who visit or even make a phone call to Israel can be thrown in jail.
After some Lebanese called for Greige on social media to be stripped of her title for “fraternizing with the enemy,” Greige claimed that Matalon had pestered her for a photo before finally photobombing her with a selfie.
A previous Miss Lebanon, Huda al-Turk, was stripped of her title in 1993 because she posed in a picture with Miss Israel.
Matalon has expressed her dismay over the accusations on Facebook, saying that what happened doesn’t surprise her, but does make her sad.
Contestants from 88 countries are competing in the 2014 Miss Universe pageant in Miami, where the winner will be announced on Jan. 25.
