Colbert: Romney Connects With Average Joes By Insulting Them In Front Of Wealthy Donors

Stephen Colbert is glad to see Mitt Romney finally connecting with regular folks. At a recent fundraiser, Colbert said, Romney once and for all dispelled his image of a โ€œdetached, tone-deaf, body-snatching pond creature.โ€

At the Mississippi fundraiser, Romney told wealthy donors that they are probably doing fine. But the waiters and waitresses serving them, not so much. Romney said: โ€œI know that people in this room are probably doing relatively well โ€ฆ but not everyone in America is doing so well right now โ€ฆ the waiters and waitresses that come in and out of this room and offer us refreshments, theyโ€™re not having a good year.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m guessing their year felt worse and worse as the night went on,โ€ Colbert said Wednesday. โ€œThatโ€™s how a candidate connects with the average people. Thereโ€™s nothing blue collar Joes like more than having their struggles pointed out in a room full of rich people they are serving.โ€
