Chris Hayes will take over the 8 p.m. time slot on MSNBC on April 1st, the channel announced on Thursday, the day after the current host of that hour, Ed Schultz, said he was moving from the weekdays to the weekends.
The change is predicated on the belief that MSNBC can win a wider audience with Mr. Hayes than it did with Mr. Schultz.
Ed will take the Ed Show to the Weekend Saturdays and Sundays from 7-9.
From MSNBC Website:
Chris Hayes will host the 8 pm hour on MSNBC weekdays beginning April 1, the company said Thursday. Hayes has hosted a weekend morning program for MSNBC, Up with Chris Hayes, since 2011.
“Chris has done an amazing job creating a franchise on weekend mornings,” said Phil Griffin, MSNBC president. ”He’s an extraordinary talent and has made a strong connection with our audience. This is an exciting time for MSNBC.”
