Everyone’s favorite internet hero is back in the news today, but this time, the news isn’t quite so hilarious. New York’s ABC-7 is reporting that Kai The Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker is wanted for the murder of New Jersey man Joseph Galfy, Jr.
Kai, whose real name is Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, became an internet sensation earlier this year when he used his hatchet to “smash, smash, suh-mash!” a man who claimed to be Jesus, apparently saving a man’s life in the process. Kai’s highly entertaining local news interview landed him on Jimmy Kimmel Live, praise from Stephen Colbert, and his very own auto-tune song from The Gregory Brothers.
According to the ABC affiliate “the victim, Joseph Galfy, was found inside his home on Starlite Drive on May 13, 2013 after officers received a call to check on his well-being. An autopsy performed the following day determined that Galfy died as a result of blunt force trauma.” Authorities have also revealed that Kai (AKA McGillvary) has cut his long, red hair to alter his appearance.
As the reporter in the video below states, Kai “should be considered armed and dangerous.” We can only assume that he is still wielding that hatchet.
