Microsoft To Move Forward With NSA Lawsuit As Talks Break Down

Microsoft, Google and other major tech firms anxious to reveal details about the US surveillance program say negotiations with the government have not reached an agreement “acceptable to all.”

Microsoft General Counsel Brad Smith, in a post Friday, said the talks recently broke down and Microsoft planned to move forward with a lawsuit filed this summer.

“With the failure of our recent negotiations, we will move forward with litigation in the hope that the courts will uphold our right to speak more freely,” Smith said.

Microsoft and others have denied that they gave the federal government special access to their servers or complied with broad requests for users’ information and communications.
