Man with knife arrested trying to enter Buckingham Palace

Police say a man with a knife was arrested trying to enter Buckingham Palace in London.

The Metropolitan Police say the man, 44, attempted to enter through a palace gate and was “apprehended immediately.”

He was arrested on suspicion of trespassing on a protected site and possessing an offensive weapon and was taken to a London police station

Buckingham Palace said the Queen was not at home at the time.

The palace said it would not make any further comment.

The police said in a statement that the knife was found after the man was searched, adding that no-one was injured during the incident.
