Attorney General and GOP gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott might not agree with the sexist, racist, crass statements made previously by his campaign buddy Ted Nugent. He almost certainly would disagree with Nugent’s past pursuits of underage girls. But Abbott claims to be a strong defender of the Constitution, and since Ted Nugent is a big defender of the part of the Constitution referring to guns, Greg Abbott sees no problem being on the same stage with Ted Nugent, a guy who seems incapable of uttering a full sentence without dropping an f-bomb. So the two will appear on stage together today unless Abbott has a sudden pang of better judgment. Don’t count on it.
Nugent is a racist. I don’t know of any other way to put it. Anyone who would characterize the first African American president in U.S. history as a “communist-nurtured subhuman mongrel” is a racist. There is no other possible context in which Nugent can defend this remark as not racist.
