Stay away from parades and carnivals with masked hoodlums. Case in point.
Two men died in a shooting late Tuesday night in the parking lot outside New Orleans event space Mardi Gras World, where a rap concert was held. A third man was wounded in gunfire inside the venue where Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan performed.
Police said the two shootings, which occurred more than an hour apart, were unrelated.
Around 11:15 p.m., a man’s body lay in the parking lot of the riverfront parade float den and event space at 1380 Port of New Orleans. Another man’s body was found in a silver car nearby.
The shootings came in the last minutes of Carnival, which ended at midnight with city officials walking down Bourbon Street to mark the end of the revelry. In addressing the press, NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas said preliminary information indicated the double shooting that killed the two men was not random.
