Edward Snowden at SXSW- Constitution ’violated on a massive scale’

Edward Snowden spoke during a South by Southwest session, discussing NSA surveillance practices and the need for better “end-to-end encryption” and an oversight system to protect the public.

The former NSA contractor said he chose to speak to the technology community because security services are “setting fire to the future of the Internet” and attendees at SXSW are “firefighters.” He addressed the crowd via a Google Hangout apparently routed through seven proxies from his current location in Russia, The Next Web reports.

“Would I do this again? The answer is absolutely yes,” Snowden said regarding leaking classified documents to journalists. “I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution, and I saw the Constitution was violated on a massive scale.”
