Judge strikes down Arkansas voter ID law

A Pulaski County, Ark., judge on Thursday struck down a law requiring voters to show photo identification at voting polls, saying it was unconstitutional.

Judge Tim Fox said the law added qualifications beyond those stated in the Arkansas Constitution. The state attorney general’s office said it would appeal the decision.

The law was vetoed by Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe last year, but the Republican-controlled legislature overrode the veto.
