Diane Sawyer Stepping Down From ABC's 'World News'

Diane Sawyer is stepping down as anchor of ABC’s “World News,” the network announced Wednesday.

After nearly five years at the helm of ABC’s flagship broadcast, Sawyer is now slated to concentrate full-time on news programming and “anchor and produce television specials and continue to interview the most extraordinary people in the world,” according to a press release.

David Muir, the anchor of “20/20,” will take over for Sawyer starting Sept. 2. With Sawyer’s replacement, all three major broadcast networks once again have male anchors leading their flagship news programs.
