Eric Cantor Will Step Down As House Majority Leader July 31.
Rep. Eric Cantor (Va.), who lost a Republican primary race last night to his tea party opponent Dave Brat, is stepping down as House Majority Leader.
With nearly all of the votes counted in Tuesday’s primary, Brat had 56 percent of the vote to Cantor’s 44 percent. No sitting House majority leader has lost since 1899.
Cantor had raised about $5.4 million in campaign funds, compared with Brat’s $200,000.
