Scholarship named for student who helped stop campus shooting

The Seattle Pacific University president announced a scholarship has been named for Jon Meis, the student who helped stop a gunman on campus earlier this month.

The announcement was made at the university’s graduation. Meis, who was among the graduates, received a standing ovation at the ceremony.

Meis pepper-sprayed and tackled a gunman when he stopped to reload a shotgun in a campus building on June 5. One person died in the shooting and two others were injured.
