In a surprise move, and after much speculation, rumor, and innuendo, it’s Amazon that aquires TWITCH.TV / JUSTIN.TV for ONE BILLION Dollars! (Dr.Evil Voice but not a joke, the deal is for ONE Billion Dollars. Good score!) and not Google as was earlier reported.
Seems Google pulled out at the last minute, due to concerns regarding anti-trust issues since GOOGLE already runs a pretty big streaming video service you might know called YOUTUBE. 🙂
For Amazon this is a great pickup since like youtube.com, they run a huge infrastructure service for CDN’s and streaming. It is estimated that over 40% of Internet traffic in the USA is running through an Amazon based network since Facebook, Netflix, and more large companies already use their network called AWS (Amazon Web Services).
