Residents on alert as Hawaii lava flow approaches town

A lava flow from the Kilauea volcano that has been moving toward a residential area on Hawaii’s Big Island for months is now just 100 yards away, authorities said Monday.

Residents have been placed on alert for possible evacuation as the flow approaches at an average of 10 to 15 yards an hour.
