Months after being shot six times at a VMAs party, rap mogul Suge Knight has been arrested for allegedly killing a man in a hit-and-run in Compton, California. Knight is suspected of running over two men with his truck Thursday afternoon after an argument on a film set. The confrontation began around 3 p.m., when Knight and two unidentified men began arguing on the set of Straight Outta Compton, a biopic about the group NWA, said Capt. John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. At least one of the victims was a member of the film crew, Corina said. About 20 minutes after the alleged argument on set, the victims visited Tam’s Burgers near Central and East Rosecrans avenues, authorities said. Knight is believed to have followed the men in his truck before running them over in the parking lot, Corina said. Witnesses said the truck hit the men, then backed over them before leaving the scene. One man was killed, the other severely injured.
James Edward Blatt, Knight’s attorney, had a different version of events. He said Knight was attacked by two people while seated in his car. While driving away, Knight hit his friend with his car, killing him, Blatt said. The rap mogul surrendered to authorities early Friday morning. TMZ reported the dead man’s name as Terry Carter, and said the injured man is Cle “Bone” Sloane.
Straight Outta Compton reportedly has wrapped production. Universal Pictures declined to comment. Knight co-founded Death Row Records with Dr. Dre in 1991 and built it into the first rap label to consistently dominate the pop scene.
