A black church in South Carolina burned to the ground Tuesday night, but so far there’s no evidence of arson. The Associated Press reports a federal official says preliminary indications show the fire at Mount Zion AME Church in Greeleyville was not deliberately set. Nevertheless, speculation raged that it was arson after several black churches in the South were burned in the past two weeks (and Mount Zion was, in 1995, by Klansmen). FBI and ATF agents joined state law enforcement to investigate the fire and will hold a news conference at 10 a.m.
