A massive thunder storm triggered flash floods in southern Utah near the Arizona border, leaving seven people dead and six others still missing, officials said late Monday. Two vehicles carrying 16 women and children in Maxwell Canyon, just north of Hildale, were among several cars that were swept away into the flood channel, said Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Barlow. Witnesses reported seeing a “wall of water” force the cars hundreds of yards downstream. Officials confirmed seven people were dead and six people were still missing as of 10:40 p.m. MT. Three victims survived and were transported to a hospital. Search and rescue teams called off the search late Monday due to poor conditions in the area.
