A suicide bomber has blown himself up near Kabul’s international airport in Afghanistan.
It’s thought the attacker who was driving a car was the only fatality; the interior ministry said there was no immediate information on casualties.
It believes the target was a convoy of foreign forces but the claim has not been confirmed by police.
“The terrorists are changing their tactics, with their use of vehicles, routes and places, but in general we are in control of every possibility and that is why, he (the attacker) couldn’t reach the target,” said Kabul police chief General Abdul Rahman Rahimi.
Police say they spotted the bomber as his car approached a checkpoint, prompting him to detonate his explosives.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Violence has increased in the Afghan capital over recent days, blamed on the Taliban. On Friday a suicide attack on a restaurant popular with foreigners and wealthy Afghans killed a boy and a security guard.
