The Justice Department on Monday withdrew its legal action against Apple, announcing it had found an undisclosed way to unlock San Bernadino shooter Syed Farook’s iPhone. The decision ends a monthlong legal standoff with the tech giant, which it had tried to compel to create software to allow investigators to gain entry to information in the device. In a brief filing, the Justice Department said it had found an outside method to bypass the security feature to access the smartphone’s data and “no longer requires the assistance from Apple.”
