A link between cellphones and cancer has been found in a major U.S. study, officials said late Thursday. The peer-reviewed $25 million study was conducted over multiple years and found two types of tumors in male rats exposed to the same kind of radio frequencies emitted by the devices. The tumors were found in brain and heart cells. βEven a very small increase in the incidence of disease resulting from exposure to [radio-frequency radiation] could have broad implications for public health,β the report said, especially βgiven the widespread global usage of mobile communications among users of all ages.β Ron Melnick, who ran the project until retiring and has reviewed its results, said: βWhere people were saying thereβs no risk, I think this ends that kind of statement.β
