ISIS Second In Command Killed In Syria

ISIS Second In Command Killed In SyriaIslamic State spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani has been killed, ISIS announced Tuesday through its Amaq News Agency. The outlet cited a military source saying Adnani “was martyred while surveying the operations to repel the military campaigns against Aleppo.” But Adnani was far more than a mere mouthpiece for the group and had a $5 million bounty on his head from the United States. An August report from The New York Times placed Adnani as the leader of a vast network of operatives called the Emni, overseeing “lieutenants empowered to plan attacks in different regions of the world.” It was that network that planned attacks across Europe in the past year, the Times reported. Adnani had previously been reported wounded in January in Anbar province by Iraq’s joint operations command.
