FBI looking into Newly Discovered Emails Related to Clinton Email Probe

FBI Re-Opening Hillary Clinton Email ProbeThe Federal Bureau of Investigation is re-opening its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server, FBI Director James Comey said Friday, in order to examine newly discovered emails for potential classified information. In a letter to members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Comey said additional emails were recovered as part of a separate probe. “I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation,” he wrote, adding that there is no timetable for the new investigation. Comey also said the FBI is thus far unable to “assess whether or not this material may be significant.”
In July, Comey announced that Clinton would not face charges for exclusively using a private email account and server while she served as secretary of state. The server was based out of her Chappaqua, N.Y., home. Comey said at the time that “no reasonable prosecutor” would recommend charges. Since then, Republican nominee Donald Trump has lambasted Clinton and Comey, saying the Democratic nominee should be “in jail” for her email practices.
