Shortly after 2:30 a.m. ET, the Associated Press called the 2016 presidential election for Republican nominee Donald Trump. The electoral call caps off a night of twists and turns, including shocking victories for Trump in states like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, and Ohio—all states which Hillary Clinton was favored to win, even if by slight margins. Early into the morning on Wednesday, Clinton’s campaign chief John Podesta appeared before the candidate’s headquarters crowd to say that “it’s not over” and that Clinton is “not done yet,” suggesting the Democratic nominee has no intention to speak publicly until later in the day. CNN reported, however, that Clinton called Trump shortly after the AP’s call to concede the election and congratulate him on his victory.
