Rudy Giuliani is Donald Trump’s favored candidate to be secretary of State, according to an Associated Press report Monday. An official who spoke on condition of anonymity said there’s no competition for the position and Giuliani will not have to fight for it. It’s no secret that the former New York mayor was among the candidates to be in a Trump administration, but it was previously unclear what role he was slated for. Giuliani himself said only that he wouldn’t be attorney general. A separate report in The Wall Street Journal on Monday said former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton was also in the running, however. Citing two sources familiar with the matter, the report said the decision was still several weeks away, and there’s still a chance other candidates will be nominated.
