In her last appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmmy Fallon as First Lady, Michelle Obama said goodbye to the country and vowed to keep working on initiatives to help children on an episode of The Tonight Show dedicated just to her.
“We’ve made plans for the continuation of all that we’re doing,” Obama told Fallon. “I will continue to stay involved with these issues as long as I live.”
In one of the segments the show had supporters read farewell letters to the first lady’s official portrait, explaining what her term meant to them, before Obama appeared in real life from behind a curtain.
“Because of you, I know that my race does not define who I am or what I can accomplish,” one woman said as Obama looked on from the wings. “For years, you have shown our nation countless times, that through dignity, compassion, and respect, we can overcome any hardships.”
