A Delaware prison standoff ended on Thursday with the death of a corrections officer, according to the state’s Department of Corrections. Another officer who was taken hostage was rescued from the facility and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital. “She is alert and talking,” said a statement released by the agency. Gov. John Carney said in a statement that he was praying for the fallen officer’s family. “This was a long and agonizing situation,” Carney said. “Our priority now will be to determine what happened and how this happened. We will hold accountable anyone who was responsible. And we will make whatever changes are necessary to ensure nothing like it ever happens again.” The hostage situation began when inmates captured four prison employees on Wednesday in the all-male facility.
