Democrats Successfully Filibuster Gorsuch Nomination

Democrats Successfully Filibuster Gorsuch NominationSenate Democrats successfully filibustered the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to serve on the Supreme Court, garnering the 41 votes to vote against cloture, or the ending of debate on the nomination. The vote ended with 55 votes in favor of ending debate, and 45 against. The move almost certainly means Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will trigger the so-called β€œnuclear option,” which will allow the nomination to go to a final floor vote with a simple majority of 51 votes, rather than 60.
