Rep. Steve Scalise Remains In Critical Condition Will Need More SurgeriesA gunman opened fire Wednesday morning in Alexandria, Virginia, targeting Republican lawmakers practicing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game. The FBI said five individuals were shot: a Capitol Police officer, who remains hospitalized; Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.); congressional aide Zachary Barth; lobbyist Matt Mika; and the assailant, by armed officers. Scalise was shot in the hip and underwent surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, and the hospital said in a statement Wednesday night he remains in critical condition and will need to undergo more surgeries. The shooter, 66-year-old James Hodgkinson, died after being shot by Capitol Police. The game will proceed Thursday as scheduled.
