Sessions Announces DACA Program Is ‘Being Rescinded’

Sessions Announces DACA Program Is Being RescindedAttorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday announced that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program “is being rescinded.” Sessions said the program, which protects individuals who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children, had been “implemented unilaterally to great controversy and legal concern” under former President Barack Obama and had “denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans” by granting recipients work authorization. Obama implemented the program through executive action in 2012. President Trump had widely been expected to end the program, despite telling reporters as recently as Friday: “We love the DREAMers. We think the DREAMers are terrific.”
