Gord Downie, frontman of the rock band The Tragically Hip, died Tuesday night at age 53, CBC News reported Wednesday. Downie had terminal brain cancer, which he discovered after a seizure in December 2015. “Gord knew this day was coming—his response was to spend this precious time as he always had—making music, making memories and expressing deep gratitude to his family and friends for a life well lived, often sealing it with a kiss… on the lips,” a statement on the band’s website said. The singer had been working on a final solo album earlier this fall, which will be released posthumously later this month.
Gord Downie has died at 53. His final album is a striking record of an artist processing his own mortality. https://t.co/sa8n26oiUE
