The CEO of AT&T on Friday told his employees that the company made a “big mistake” by hiring Michael Cohen to get insider insight into the Trump administration — a decision said to have cost a top exec his job. AT&T said on Tuesday it hired Essential Consultants to advise it on working with the new administration in early 2017, around the time of Trump’s inauguration. Cohen’s political payments, which also came from Novartis and Korea Aerospace Industries, have been increasingly scrutinized in recent days and seem to have drawn the attention of investigators. The payments by AT&T and others were revealed by Michael Avenatti, an attorney representing the adult-film actress Stormy Daniels.
