Lo and Behold! Donald Trump admits to having wanted Former President Mike Pence to overturn the 2020 elections, while they were being certified during Pence’s role as the presiding officer of the Senate.
This is the first time Trump admitted and suggested that Pence had the power to certify the results in his favor, which he didn’t do so. Trump said, “If the Vice President (Mike Pence) had ‘absolutely no right’ to change the Presidential Election results in the Senate, despite fraud and many other irregularities, how come the Democrats and RINO Republicans, like Wacky Susan Collins, are desperately trying to pass legislation that will not allow the Vice President to change the results of the election? Actually, what they are saying is that Mike Pence did have the right to change the outcome, and they now want to take that right away.” He also added, “Unfortunately, he didn’t exercise that power, he could have overturned the Election!” (article continued below)
Not only that but, at a Texas rally on Saturday, Trump probed around 2024 presidential candidacy and said that he would consider forgiving those who were charged in connection with the January 6th Capitol attack. He even said that the rioters are being treated unfairly- “so unfairly”.
“If I run and if I win, we will treat those people from January 6 fairly. We will treat them fairly. And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons. Because they are being treated so unfairly.” Trump said
Currently, the Department of Justice has charged more than 700 people connected with the attack and some of the Republicans (Trump’s allies) have asked for a pardon for the mobs. Recently, Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis, a potential Republican candidate for 2024, has called commemorations of the riot as an effort to “smear” Trump’s supporters.
Trump’s outbursts are common, however, it is coming at a crucial time when legal ropes are tightening around his neck. He’s already low and stopping lower, seeing that he attacked two Black New York prosecutors investigating his business empire. The attack seemed to be racially driven. He said, “These prosecutors are vicious, horrible people. They’re racists and they’re very sick — they’re mentally sick. They’re going after me without any protection of my rights from the Supreme Court or most other courts. In reality, they’re not after me, they’re after you.”
Trump’s statements about pardoning and Pence, indicate that he is all on board to whitewash all that has happened that day. People who staged a coup because of Trump’s statements are not being treated “so unfairly”. It was Trump’s inciting remarks and playing the victim card that led to the attack.
How are these rioters treated unfairly? As the riot was taking place, the mob could be heard chanting “hang Mike Pence”. The House panel’s impeachment manager Stacey Plaskett said the mob was looking for Pence since “he refused to do what the president demanded” and were talking about assassinating him. Luckily, some of the high-profiled Republicans dismissed Trump’s statement about pardoning the rioters. Republican Gov. Chris Sununu said on Sunday that those responsible for the attack must be held accountable. South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, “I think it’s inappropriate. I don’t want to reinforce that defiling the Capitol was okay. I don’t want to do anything that would make this more likely in the future.” Republican senator Susan Collins also dismissed the remarks saying that “January 6 was a dark day in our history.”
Trump’s influence and hold on people and the Republicans is unbelievable. It’s been a year since he’s been out of office, but he managed to convince millions of Americans that the election was stolen. Major Republican states have passed laws making it harder to vote and easier for political officials to interfere with the election results. He is freely going around, inciting racism, polarization, division, and disorientation. John Dean, a former White House counsel to President Richard Nixon condemned Trump’s pardoning statement and tweeted in regards to it saying, “If thinking Americans don’t understand what Trump is doing and what the criminal justice system must do we are all in big trouble!”
