The traitors at Fox News side with Russia as the GOP love affair with authoritarianism continues
Fox News is spreading misinformation as usual, and its host, Tucker Carlson, is repeatedly siding with Russia and questioning why the U.S. is siding with the Ukrainians.
Russia is stepping up its military troops on the Ukrainian border. NATO allies fear for a possible ground invasion from Russia and therefore have sent additional military troops and equipment to Ukraine. The Pentagon said they have 8,500 US troops on “heightened alert” over this clash.
However, here we are in the US, with an extremely misguided cable news host encouraging Russia’s escalation of the situation. During the show, Carlson questioned the audience as to who benefits from a possible war with Russia. This isn’t the first time Carlson sided with Russia. Back in December, Carlson said that Putin’s move was justified- to build troops in Ukrainian borders. On Monday night, Carlson said, “We don’t ask that question enough. The United States certainly doesn’t benefit, that’s obvious to anyone who thinks about it for a second. It’s so glaringly obvious, in fact, that the people pushing this war immediately denounce you as a traitor if you point that out.” He also said, “Why is it disloyal to side with Russia but loyal to side with Ukraine? They’re both foreign countries that don’t care anything about the United States. Kind of strange. It’s all an absurd performance, but it’s all they’ve got in the end.”
Carlson said that the US needed to focus on its economy and that “The Chinese government is the only certain winner here.” Funny coming from a propaganda news channel that seems to be encouraging anti-democracy. Carlson even went the way to compare Russia and Ukraine’s political system- the major difference which he seemed to look over of course is that Russia is an authoritarian regime, while Ukraine is a democratic regime.
According to Carlson, Biden’s administration’s move to possibly sanction Russia to assert their influence will strengthen the economic relations between Russia and China and that will lead to a domino effect, leading to the global community moving to “drop the US dollar in favor of a new currency.” Carlson’s narrative has swayed some people’s views on Russia’s aggression. For example, on Monday, Democratic Congressman Tom Malinowski said that he’s been receiving calls from people who watch Tucker Carlson and are “upset” over the fact that the US is not supporting Russia and wants him to support Russia’s “reasonable” position. Carlson’s show has led CNN’s Don Lemon calling out on the cable news. Lemon said, “With tensions at an all-time high, you’ve got to wonder, why does a certain network seem to love Vladimir Putin so much? You all know who I’m talking about. I’m talking about the Fox propaganda network. What we’re seeing is a whole lot of praise for the authoritarian strongman who rules Russia with an iron fist.” And Lemon raised the question as to why some of the news cables are siding with Russia’s move. “What are they up to? And whose propaganda they’re pushing, really.”
Not only CNN, but also MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow argued, “Every country in the West is worried about Russia potentially starting this new war. Everybody except our friends at Fox News primetime who are apparently rooting for Russia in this instance and wouldn’t mind a war. But elsewhere in the West, everybody’s worried about it.”
Again, this isn’t the first time Carlson spoke in defense of Russia. Carlson described himself as “rooting for Russia ” back in 2019 and “confused” over US’s position on the Ukrainian issue. This unending “confusion” emerged again last November during an interview with Republican Congressman Mike Turner, who clarified to Carlson that the US is “against authoritarian regimes coming in and changing borders by tanks”.
