The attack on the US Capitol was a planned, coordinated event built around the big lie that the election was stolen
Watch DAY 1 – Key Moments from the Jan 6th hearings.
To watch the live stream of the MSNBC coverage you can watch this stream.
Public hearings started on June 10th, showing video clips from the day of the attack and some other clips of testimonies from some of Trump’s former allies, including his own daughter Ivanka Trump.
Rep. Bennie Thompson and Rep. Liz Cheney started off with strong statements, with Thompson describing Jan 6 as an “culmination of attempted coup”. In their statements, both directly held Trump to be responsible for the coup and “motivated” the people to believe that the election was stolen and that “he was the rightful President”. Cheney said in her statement, “President Trump summoned the mob, assembled the mob and lit the flame of this attack.”
Now that’s obvious, let’s summon the Day 1 public hearings.
Cheney said that the former Attorney General William Barr told Trump that his allegations regarding the voting machines were illogical. In a testimony video clip, Barr is seen saying, “I saw absolutely zero basis for the allegations, but they were made in such a sensational way that they obviously were influencing a lot of people.” Basically, people were made to believe that there was some systemic corruption and these voting machines were actually determining the elections, eventually making the votes void. Barr said that it was “complete nonsense” and told them that it was “crazy stuff”.
Ivanka was then asked to comment on Barr’s statement regarding the voting machines to which she was saying, “I respect Attorney General Barr and so I accepted what he was saying.”
Another key moment was when Cheney pointed out that Trump never ordered the deployment of the National Guard that day and made no move whatsoever to cooperate with the Department of Justice to deploy law officials to stop the attack. However, Mike Pence did those things and the proof was in the form of General Milley, the chairman of the joint chief of staff. He testified saying that, There were two or three calls with Vice President Pence. He was very animated and he issued very explicit, very direct, unambiguous orders. And to Secretary Miller, get the military down, and get the guard down here, put down this situation etc.”
Cheney also said that multiple Republican congressmen , including Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania seeked “presidential pardons for their roles in attempting to overturn the 2020 election.”
Then another video is shown with General Miller in conversation with ex Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. Miller said that in that conversation, Meadows said that “We need to establish the narrative that the President is still in charge and things are steady or stable or words to that effect.” General Miller also added, “I immediately interpreted that as politics, politics, politics.”
Another testimony was of Capitol Police Officer, Caroline Edwards, who received a brain injury that day, calling the event as “carnage” and “chaos”. The video clip of that day shows Edwards lying unconscious and helpless, after being hit with a bike rack and hitting her head on the stairs.
Another testimony was of the document filmmaker, Nick Quested, who was shooting the Proud Boys that day and described how they started walking towards the Capitol at 10.30 am before Trump even gave his speech.
Cheney was quite firm, saying to the Republican colleagues, “There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain.”
Unfortunately, Americans are still divided on the facts of what truly happened that day. With all cable news showing the live hearing, here we have Fox News who didn’t air it live and didn’t even bother cutting away during the time the infamous host Tucker Carlson was on air. Cable news being the prime source of information, there’s still a major portion of the people still in the shadows of lies and false narratives spinned by cables like Fox News.
