The story began weeks earlier, when Michelle Allen, a mother who had hosted her child’s birthday party at the same Chuck E. Cheese, noticed suspicious charges on her credit card. The purchases, made at stores she never visited, set off alarm bells. Allen’s determination led her to one of the stores, where she obtained security footage. The video showed a familiar face: the same Chuck E. Cheese employee who had worked her party, now making a purchase at the exact time her card was used.

Tallahassee police officer Jarrett Cruz took the lead. He visited the restaurant, identified Jones out of costume, and spoke briefly with Allen, who was visibly anxious. But when Cruz returned to the restaurant after conferring with colleagues, Jones had vanished—at least, as himself. Instead, the Chuck E. Cheese mascot was now entertaining guests.

The Arrest: “Chuck E, Come With Me”

What happened next could have been scripted for a slapstick comedy, if not for the underlying seriousness. Officer Cruz approached the mascot and, according to his report, instructed, “Chuck E, come with me Chuck E.” Jones, still in character, resisted, locking his arms and trying to pull away. The officers, careful not to escalate the scene in front of children, used “minor physical effort” to handcuff the costumed suspect.

After being read his Miranda rights, Jones insisted on his innocence: “I don’t got no card on me, I don’t use nobody’s cards but my own.” But a search revealed the victim’s Visa card in his pocket, along with a receipt from a smoke shop—one of the locations where fraudulent charges had been made.

Fallout and Corporate Response

Jones now faces charges of larceny, possession of another person’s ID without consent, and fraudulent use of a credit card. As of Friday, it was unclear whether he had secured legal representation.

Chuck E. Cheese’s corporate office responded with a brief statement: “We are aware of an incident involving a part-time employee arrested at our Tallahassee location on Wednesday. We have taken the appropriate action concerning the subject employee.”
