The MAGA Loyalist Has Been Very Cagey About His Communications with Trump
The House panel has requested an interview with Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, one of Trump’s closest allies in Congress.
The letter sent to Jordan says, “We understand that you had at least one and possibly multiple communications with President Trump on January 6th. We would like to discuss each such communication with you in detail.” The letter also read, “Public reporting suggests that you may also have information about meetings with White House officials and the then-President in November and December 2020, and early-January 2021, about strategies for overturning the results of the 2020 election. We would also like to ask you about any discussions involving the possibility of presidential pardons for individuals involved in any aspect of January 6th or the planning for January 6th,”
Jordan is the second member of Congress to receive such a letter from the House panel. On Monday, a similar request was sent to Republican Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, who the House believes had a significant role to place then-Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark as acting attorney general in late 2020. He has already declined the request and has refused to appear.
After learning the lesson, the letter seems to be ready for such actions from Jordan, even offering to interview him in his district. Jordan’s office hasn’t yet made any comments.
Early this summer in an interview with Spectrum News, Jordan admitted speaking to Trump on Jan 6th. He said, “Yeah, I mean, I spoke with the president last week. I speak with the president all of the time. I spoke with him on Jan. 6. I mean, I talked with President Trump all the time, and that’s … I don’t think that’s unusual. I would expect members of Congress to talk with the president of the United States when they’re trying to get done the things they told the voters in their district to do.β
There aren’t any specifics mentioned in the letter, however, its major focus seems to be on Jordan’s extent of knowledge on the Jan 6th riot. One of the text messages, though not identified by the Committee, was forwarded by him, saying, “On Jan. 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, should call out all electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all.”
Originally, Jordan was selected by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to be one of the five GOP members serving on the committee back in July. However, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejected the selection, believing the appointment can impact the “integrity” of the investigation. This move resulted in friction between the two parties, with McCarthy removing all the other members and Pelosi having to choose which Republican will serve in the panel.
Jordan did mention in an interview to Fox News back in December 2020, “I don’t know how you can ever convince me that President Trump didn’t actually win this thing based on all the things you see.” He is a loyal supporter of Trump’s false claims on electoral fraud. He is most likely the next in line to chair the Judiciary Committee and if Republicans claim the House, he will have the power to stop the Democrats in their tracks if he feels they are crossing their limits.
One day before the letter was released, Jordan and Republican Senator Mike Lee engaged in a “phone briefing” for supporters of the Conservative Political Action Committee, which is run by another one of Trump’s allies Matt Schlapp. The briefing was focused on criticizing the House panel’s investigation in the Jan 6th riot.
The panel has already interviewed 300 people, seeking to provide a full and detailed record of the attack and what actions led to it.
Here in this video you can watch Jim Jordan fumble his words and acts guilty as hell.
