81st Annual Golden Globe Awards 2024

The 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards, taking place on January 7, 2024, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, marks a significant event in the awards season calendar. This year’s ceremony will be broadcast live on CBS and features comedian Jo Koy as the host, making his debut in this role.

The event can also be streamed right HERE on LNC also on Paramount+ in the U.S., while Canadian viewers can watch it on CityTV or stream it online via CityTV+ on Amazon Prime Video. The red carpet coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT, with a digital pre-show partnership between Variety and Entertainment Tonight, available on various digital and social platforms.

This year’s Golden Globes are notable for the introduction of two new categories: “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement” and “Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television.” The awards will celebrate outstanding film and American television productions from 2023, with a diverse slate of nominees including films like “Poor Things” and “The Holdovers,” and TV series such as “Succession” and “The Bear.” Noteworthy nominations include Emma Stone and Paul Giamatti for their respective roles in “Poor Things” and “The Holdovers,” and Christopher Nolan being a strong contender for Best Director for “Oppenheimer.”

A significant change in the Golden Globes this year is the ownership and management structure. Following a Los Angeles Times investigation in 2021, which revealed a lack of diversity and ethical lapses within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization was shut down. The awards are now owned by Eldridge Industries and managed by Dick Clark Productions, with an expanded voting membership including 300 journalists from around the world, showcasing 60% racial and ethnic diversity.

The presenters at this year’s ceremony include a star-studded lineup featuring Amanda Seyfried, Angela Bassett, George Lopez, Julia Garner, Justin Hartley, Michelle Yeoh, Will Ferrell, Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, America Ferrera, Daniel Kaluuya, Florence Pugh, Hailee Steinfeld, Issa Rae, Oprah Winfrey, Shameik Moore, and Simu Liu, among others.
