Twitter finally bans the Qanon supporter and anti-vaxxer from the platform for spreading Covid-19 misinformation
On Sunday, Twitter banned the controversial personal account of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. According to a statement from the company, the action resulted from Greene violating COVID-19 misinformation policy on multiple occasions.
Twitter permanently banned the account under the system called “Strike” launched in March, which uses artificial intelligence to find COVID-19 related posts that are misleading and could cause harm to people. Under this system, two to three strikes cause the account to lock for 12 hours, four strikes result in week-long suspension and five or more strikes can completely remove the Twitter account.
On Telegram, Greene blasted Twitter saying the move was “Un-American”. She said, “Twitter is an enemy to America and canβt handle the truth,β Greene said. βThatβs fine, Iβll show America we donβt need them and itβs time to defeat our enemies.β She said her account was removed after she tweeted statistics from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, a self reporting tool for vaccine side effects managed by CDC and FDA and which also includes unverified raw data.
She also said in her statement, “Maxine Waters can go to the street and threatened violence on Twitter, Kamala and Ilhan can bail out Black Lives Matter terrorists on Twitter, CNN and the rest of the Democrat Propaganda Media can spread Russia collusion lies, and just yesterday the Chief spokesman for terrorist IRGC can tweet mourning Soleimani, but I get suspended for tweeting VAERS statistics. Social media platforms can’t stop the truth from being spread far and wide. Big tech can’t stop the truth. Communist Democrats can’t stop the truth. I stand with the truth and the people. We will overcome!”
Her personal account has been suspended, however, her work account is still active where she last tweeted on December 19th.
This is the 5th strike for the Georgia Rep. With previous suspension in August for saying COVID-19 vaccines shouldn’t be fully approved by the FDA, since according to her they are ‘failing’ to reduce the spread of COVID-19. That was her fourth strike. Her third strike was in July after she tweeted that COVID isn’t that dangerous “for non-obese people and those under 65”.
On Saturday, she tweeted a graph showing 18,000 deaths from the COVID-19 vaccines, according to VAERS data. She said, “Before Covid, reported deaths from vaccines were taken seriously and dangerous vaccines were stopped. After Covid, extremely high amounts of covid vaccine deaths are ignored and government forced vaccine mandates increase.”
The government database VAERS allows anyone to report the side effects after receiving the vaccine. Given the fact that anyone can submit a report, Government health officials have previously warned that the data is being misused and misinterpreted.
Last month, Greene posted a four tweet thread comparing COVID to cancer, encouraging Americans to take a more easygoing attitude towards the virus. Her tweet said, “Every single year more than 600,000 people in the US die from cancer. In 2021, an estimated 608,570 people will die of cancer in the United States. The country has never once shut down. Not a single school has closed. And every year, over 600,000 people, of all ages and all races, will continue to die from cancer. Since #COVID19 tracking has started, 780,000+ people have died in 22 mo in the US, but more than 1 million still died of cancer.”
“More have died in 2021 from covid than 2020 in spite of Gov mandated widespread vaccines, mass public masking, & trillions spent.”
“Covid predominately targets obese & older people,’ She was encouraging people saying, ‘itβs time to take a different approach based on the facts’ and ‘stop the politically driven mass hysteria.”
In July 2017, she welcomed QAnon conspiracy theories, whose believers followed the word of some government insider nicknamed Q, and according to tampa Bay Times saying it to be a ‘once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take this global cabal of Satan-worshiping pedophiles out’. However, in February 2021, she said in a speech that she stopped believing the conspiracy theory after she found lies and misinformation in the QAnon posts. She was also suspended back in January, after the Capitol attack, with her tweets indicating conspiracy theories about voter fraud in Georgia. She has repeatedly attacked Anthony Fauci and shared several snaps of her wearing a face mask which said “Fire Fauci”. Last week, she criticised a national college Republican group for tweeting Happy Kwanzaa to the people. She said, “Stop. It’s a fake religion created by a psychopath. You aren’t bringing in new voters, you are turning them away. People are tired of pandering and BS.”
