One of the more popular news-based pay television cable channels, MSNBC live streaming began back in 1996. The name of the network comes from the fact that its website and live channel were founded in 1996 under a partnership between Microsoft and General Electric’s NBC unit. Seen here is the original MSNBC Logo back when the network launched.

MSNBC Live Ratings & Popularity
The channel has become extremely popular over the years and the MSNBC live stream is now one of the most sought after by Americans and others interested in current events and politics around the world. The organization is based in New York and many watch the programming via the network’s many MSNBC streaming platforms.
The NBCUniversal News Group is a division of NBCUniversal which is a subsidiary of Comcast. Besides general news coverage, the network carries political commentary on current events. To give a better idea of how well the news network has done as of September 2018, approximately 87 million households in the United States were accessing the MSNBC stream or watching MSNBC live.
Added to that, a little over 90 percent of pay television subscribers were receiving MSNBC. MSNBC was second on basic cable networks averaging about 1.8 million viewers. The only other news channel that was as popular that year was Fox News, with 2.5 million viewers.
In 2005, Microsoft divested itself of its stakes in the MSNBC channel and in msnbc.com in July 2012. As a result of this, the general news site was rebranded as NBCNews.com, and a new msnbc.com was created as the online home of the cable channel. Following another revamping in 2015 MSNBC Live, became the network’s flagship daytime news platform. The platform was expanded to cover over eight hours of the day.
This resulted in a significant uptick in MSNBC streaming as more internet users tried to get their news from MSNBC’s live stream.

MSNBC Live Streaming News Early History
The first show on MSNBC was anchored by Jodi Applegate and covered a wide range of topics including news, interviews, and commentary. During the day, rolling news coverage continued with The Contributors, a show that featured the now-infamous Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham, as well as interactive programming coordinated by Applegate, John Gibson, and John Seigenthaler.
What helped them to gain popularity was the fact that many of the stories they presented were generally longer and more detailed than the stories CNN was running. The network also highlighted their broadcast connections by airing stories directly from NBC’s network affiliates, along with breaking news coverage from the same sources.
The Project for Excellence in Journalism shed some light on the popularity of the network in 2007 after completing its seven-year survey of cable channels, as it determined that “MSNBC is moving to make politics a brand, with a large dose of opinion and personality.”
This was also made apparent in 2001 following the September 11 attacks in the US. MSNBC’s live stream shot up in popularity as it became an outlet for the up-to-the-minute coverage being provided by NBC News. Since there was little financial news to cover, CNBC and CNBC Europe ran MSNBC live for many hours each day following the attacks.
MSNBC Live News Feed Criticisms
As MSNBC gained popularity it diversified into more political coverage. This would result in a number of accusations of liberal bias. Many critics and commentators have also criticized MSNBC for having a conservative bias, with others claiming a lack of news diversity and the suspension of high-profile hosts. According to the Pew Research Center, MSNBC is the most opinionated news network, with 85 percent of the content being commentary or opinions.
Nevertheless, the network has attracted fans from around the world who tune in via the Cable Networks, Via web to our MSNBC live stream, which is free, and the MSNBC live audio which there is currently streaming on the Internet via several Apps.
